The Cipher Series

cryptomenysistitle.jpgFew digital editions of cryptography manuals and ciphered documents exist, and no 3D models of the artifacts of cryptography history are available to readers to represent the innovations and movements of the rich history of the discipline. Illinois State University houses a large collection of cryptography resources, and faculty across several disciplines have expertise in ciphering and deciphering from literary, historical, mathematic, computing, and art historical perspectives. This lab encourages encoding and analysis of the historical documents of cryptography’s long history, beginning with the digitization of John Falconer’s 1685 Cryptomenysis Patefacta, a first edition of which is in ISU’s Milner Special Collections.
